Degrees of Higher Education

Some employers prefer to hire applicants who have an associate’s or bachelor’s degree as a minimum requirement.

Associate’s degrees generally take about two years (or four semesters) to complete, and they are offered at each of the community colleges serving Northeast Texas. Associate degrees are available in child development, nursing, information systems, business administration, criminal justice, drafting, emergency medical technology and many other fields.

Bachelor’s degrees generally take about four years to complete depending on what focus you choose. Texas A&M University-Texarkana is the only traditional university in Northeast Texas. But, that doesn’t limit your choices. There are a number of universities located across the state and within a few hours drive from Northeast Texas. Universities also offer online courses, allowing you to complete your courses in the comfort of your own home.
